BARRINGTON, R.I. (AP) _ An 18-year-old woman adrift for about an hour after her kayak capsized has been rescued from the 50-degree waters of Narragansett Bay following a search complicated by thick fog.
Barrington police were notified just before 8 p.m. Sunday that two woman had gone out on a kayak together about an hour earlier but had not returned.
The Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force launched six vessels into the fog.
One of the women swam to shore. She turned down medical treatment.
The search vessels at one point turned off their engines to listen for someone in the water and at about 9:30 p.m. heard calls for help.
The other woman was rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment of mild hypothermia. No names were released.
