Allegations against Westerly Town Official unfounded

By News Staff
Rhode Island State Police have concluded an investigation into potential allegations involving a former Westerly zoning official, and have found no basis for pressing criminal charges.
Westerly town employee, Elizabeth Burdick, was cleared of any wrong-doing associated with her resignation and negotiation of a severance package in January of 2013.
Police began investigating after the Town Council President, Christopher Duhamel, asked them to look into the circumstances surrounding Burdick’s resignation from town service when public accusations of extortion and a subsequent cover-up surfaced in February of 2015.
State Police Captain, Christopher J. Dicmitis advised the Westerly Police Chief that the investigation revealed no criminal activity.
Duhamel stated that he believed the allegations to be false but found it his duty to be cautious and seek an independent investigation when serious charges are brought against Town officials.
