Warwick man found guilty of defrauding banks of thousands

A federal jury found 32-year-old David Alcantara guilty on Friday of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and other charges. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 4.
Prosecutors say Alcantara’s schemes resulted in the transfer of about $600,000 from the accounts of legitimate bank customers into fraudulent accounts through the use of stolen identities in December 2009 and January 2010.
The stolen money was then withdrawn using cashier’s checks. Three co-conspirators have pleaded guilty for their roles in the schemes.
