Four executives from Motel 6 corporate flew in to Rhode Island, joining with local management to discuss what can be done to reduce crime at the motel, which has seen 75 arrests on Jefferson Boulevard in the past calendar year.
Executives met with city brass Tuesday morning to discuss what will be done to reduce the bad behavior. “Motel 6 is collaborating and working with the city of Warwick to make sure these issues move down the highway,” said Victor Glover, vice president of safety and security at Motel 6.
“We have reached a number of agreements which we are now going to put down on paper,” Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisan said. Those agreements were announced to the city’s Board of Public Safety Tuesday night.
Among the those, Motel 6 is now sending a list of hotel guests to the Warwick Police daily, police have upped their patrols to the location to 7 days a week and the minimum check-in age has been raised from 18 to 21. .
The Motel 6 in Seekonk will also be part of discussions and a separate action plan. “We are a suburb of providence. People are coming over the line, we have fugitives coming. Maybe to a lesser degree but we have the same problems,” Seekonk Chief Craig Mace said.
Warwick Police Chief Stephen McCartney says the motel execs are cooperating 300 percent.
“I was very impressed with the corporate officials who have law enforcement experience,” McCartney said. “They sat at the table with us today and they recognize the issues too and they are doing their very best to try to get on top of it.“
