Officials in the town of Cumberland are trying to track down vandals who recently defaced Valley Falls Heritage Park.

The town has put several thousand dollars towards revitalizing the area in the last few years.

The beautiful and historic park is marred by graffiti. Officials say it must have been done recently, because up until a few weeks ago, the entire area was covered in snow.

Administrators with the highway department are working on ways to clean it all up before the park, which is very popular in the summertime, is used for any community events. Cumberland Police are currently investigating, since several thousand dollars were spent here within the last three years to revitalize the entire park. Officials are hoping the criminals are easy to track down.

Mayor Bill Murray says, “One of the things that we’ve been very careful about is to make sure that these things don’t happen, and we have security cameras down there – we spent money through a grant to get the security cameras in there.”

Officials say if they catch the vandals, they will press charges.
