Weather doesn’t dampen Boston Marathon spirit

Tens of thousands of runners took to the streets of Boston Monday for the city’s 119th marathon.
It’s the second marathon since the bombings that killed three people and injured hundreds more. This year’s race comes just one day before the penalty phase starts for the bomber.
It was a rainy and windy Marathon Monday, but spectators and runners did not let the weather did not get in the way of their day.
“I heard someone announce that these are tears of joy and that so is true,” said Julie Malcolm.
Andrew Arzate, a runner this year says, “Everywhere you look—Boston Strong—even in the weather, the volunteers: ‘Boston Strong’. I mean, for them to be out there in this!”
That attitude is heard not only through cheers and words of encouragement along the route but also seen by tons of people dawning “Boston Strong” clothing and signs.
“Just a great vibe, lots if excitement. I just think everyone is showing their Boston pride—Boston Strong. Nothing is going to get us down” said another fan, Kerry Johnston.
The memory of those hurt and killed in the 2013 marathon inspired many to come out for this year’s event.
“For me, I’ve been coming here with my family. My father has run the marathon about 15 times now, so I’ve been coming up since I was a little kid. When I saw what happened I was like, I gotta do this, I gotta get out there” said runner, Brendan McDonough.
Meghan Corless, a fan, says, “My father was a first responder for 911 and so he always taught me to not be afraid of acts like this… so I think it was really important for me to come out today and just show my support for everyone who is here.”
