Victim killed in train accident identified

South Kingstown Police have identified the individual killed in an Amtrak train accident Saturday night.

21-year-old DeAnna S. Bates, of Kingston, was pronounced deceased on scene after her vehicle was struck by a train in the area of Waites Corner Road in West Kingston.

Around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night, Amtrak Operations Center called police saying one of their passenger trains had struck a vehicle on the tracks.

Bates was the sole occupant of the vehicle. None of the passengers or crew on the train were injured.

The case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact South Kingstown Police Detectives at 401-783-3321.
