Cranston schools to close on Good Friday in 2016

CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) _ Cranston schools will be closed on three religious holidays in the next school year.
The school committee made the decision in the wake of a lawsuit filed by the teachers union after the district held classes on Good Friday for the first time in at least 25 years.
The calendar for the 2015-2016 school year will include days off for Good Friday and the Jewish holidays of Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah.
Teachers filed a lawsuit after their requests to observe the Good Friday holiday were denied. A court agreement later allowed teachers to request the day off and about 200 of them did.
