CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) _ Police say a driver was impaired with alcohol or drugs when she struck a pedestrian, tossing him between two parked cars, and then hit a wall, causing her car to flip on its side.

Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquist says 49-year-old Lorna M. Grassel of West Greenwich was charged Saturday with driving while under the influence of liquor or drugs.

The pedestrian, who hit his head on the hood of the car before being thrown between two parked cars, was treated for injuries and released.

Winquist says Grassel struck the man in the parking lot of Club Mardi Gras around 1 a.m. Saturday as she was leaving.

He says responding officers noted that Grassel displayed “obvious signs of intoxication.”

He says she failed a series of field sobriety tests.
