The 7th annual Fight for Air Climb Providence was held at the Omni Hotel Saturday. The event benefits the American Lung Association.

“We have about 900 climbers that will be racing up 22 floors and then they come back down and head over to our after party at Union Station Brewery,” said Daniel Bowler, Event Manager.

“It’s a very fun event. It’s very different. We call it a vertical road race. People are used to running road races but that vertical aspect up the stairs is very different for people,” he added.

The goal was to raise $210,000 for the cause. Last year $192,000 was raised.

The Rhode Island State Police team won first place in the team category as well as first in the law enforcement team category.

Trooper Roupen Bastajian won first place in the law enforcement category.

Taking second place in his age category was Dimitrius Palmer and Lieutenant Colonel Karen Pinch won third place in her age category.

The team also successfully raised a good amount of money for the American Lung Association.

Colonel O’Donnell said in a statement, “I congratulate all the Troopers who competed and won the team and law enforcement division categories as well as the respective individual categories. They work hard and are dedicated to philosophy of having a sound mind and body.”
