Wrong way crash on Route 6, death resulting

PROVIDENCE, RI_ Police arrest a man for allegedly driving under the influence resulting in two deaths on Route 6.

The Rhode Island State Police tells ABC6 on April 5, at 1:35 am the Lincoln Barracks received several calls of a motor vehicle crash possibly involving a wrong way operator in the eastbound lanes of Route 6 near Toby Street.

Upon arrival, Officials noticed Joel Norman, 24, of Webster, MA showed signs of intoxication and was the operator of the vehicle driving the wrong way.

Norman was arrested for allegedly driving the wrong way under the influence of alcohol or drugs resulting in a fatal motor vehicle accident, and taken to the Lincoln Barracks where he rejected a breath test.

After seeking a search warrant, Norman’s blood was drawn and results remain pending.

Officials observed the vehicle struck by the alleged drunk driver was a Honda.

The driver of the Honda Tiffany Sical, 21, of Providence was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her passenger Bryan Rodriguez-Solis, 23, of Central Falls was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.

They were both wearing their seatbelts.

Norman was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs, death resulting.

He was also charged with two counts of driving to endanger resulting in death.

Norman was arraigned and bail was set at $100,000 with surety. He is scheduled for pre-arraignment on June 12 in the Providence Sixth Division District Court.
