Pension settlement could come Thursday

By News Staff
Both the governor and the speaker of the house hinted Wednesday that a deal to settle the 2011 pension lawsuit may be close to getting done.
Due to a court ordered gag order, little has been said about the details of the proposal or the union votes taking place on a proposed settlement.
Governor Raimondo told ABC6 Wednesday that a deal might be close.
“It is close. We’re working so hard, so at this point, we’re hopeful we’ll be able to settle,” say Raimondo.
We’ve also been told by House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello’s office that they are expecting a big announcement to be made Thursday.
His office would not elaborate any further or confirm that the announcement is related to the ongoing pension negotiations.
Both sides are also expected to be in Superior Court Thursday at 2 p.m. to continue the pretrial motions process. The trial is set to start April 20th.
