Condo owners of Westgate Condominiums met Tuesday night to discuss details about what is next.

ABC6 is told condo owners in the destroyed building still have to pay condo fees even though their condos are no longer standing.

They found this out at the closed-door meeting with property management and the condo association’s attorney.

Many Westgate condo residents are still frightened nearly two weeks after a massive fire destroyed this 38-unit building in Warwick.

“A lot of people in there are scared to death,” said one resident.

We’re told the attorney told property owners that they’re required to rebuild per state law.

Insurance will cover the cost of the building but building C condo owners still have to pay their condo fees.

Owners and renters of the complex’s two other buildings telling us they’ll have to help foot the bill if building C residents don’t.

“I am petrified to go back. I won’t go back to my unit,” said another resident.

Residents whose condos are still standing worry their units may see a similar demise.
They tell us they’ve been dealing with structural issues similar to building C.

“Scaffolding there which has been there for about a month, maybe more than that,” said Rachel Berman.

We’re told the burned complex was up to code with state fire regulations and the fire alarm system was working.

Residents at tonight’s meeting were asked to fill out an insurance questionnaire. We’re still waiting to hear the cause of the fire and investigators tell us they hope to release that by Thursday.
