PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ A Massachusetts man faces life in prison after pleading guilty in federal court in Rhode Island to drug and gun charges.

Prosecutors say 38-year-old Kevin Bates, of Attleboro, pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges including possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Bates was pulled over by Providence police in October 2013 for failing to use his turn signals on several occasions as his vehicle circled the city’s East Side. A search of his vehicle turned up 245 grams of cocaine, a handgun that had been reported stolen, and $2,500 in cash.

Because Bates had previously been convicted of felony drug and gun charges, he was barred from having a gun.

He is scheduled to be sentenced June 5.
