Celebrating their Irish heritage, or pretending to be Irish, thousands took to the streets in Newport Saturday for the he annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. It featured marching bands, dancers, leprechauns, and more. Despite the chilly temps and rain– people were surprised to see such a huge turnout.

“I really give them a lot o credit for being here in the rain. It’s so cold and damp, but they’re so enthusiastic,” said Grace Trofa of Newport.

“It is cold and wet and it’s great. I can’t believe this many people are here. I had no idea it was this big of a deal and she loves it [points to young daughter]. We’re having blast,” said parade go-er Brandi Upright.

It was the 59th annual parade. The event lasted about 2 hours, but folks stuck around the area all day.
