Rhode Island lawmakers have voted on whether to allow Twin River Casino to add a hotel.

The House OK’ed the bill on a vote of 67 to 0 Thursday.

The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.

The bill, if passed, would lift a ban that had prevented the gambling facility from building a hotel. The restriction was originally in place to satisfy hotel owners in Providence worried about competition.

Twin River officials say the hotel will add jobs and keep customers. Supporters say it will help maintain the state’s third largest source of cash – lottery revenues.
