Multi-family house destroyed by fire in Central Falls

By News Staff
The American Red Cross is helping five families after a multi-family home in Central Falls was heavily damaged by fire.
The Fire Chief tells ABC6 that the fire appears to have started in a barrel outside of the three-story home at 388 Central Street before spreading to the building. Fire marshals are investigating to determine the exact cause.
Crews say the wind made it extremely difficult to put out the flames.
The roof of the building eventually collapsed as firefighters tried to put out the flames. They had to evacuate the building twice while fighting the fire for safety reasons.
The home was occupied by three families. Firefighters evacuated those inside as well as residents of an adjoining house on the back of the property and everyone made it out safely, according to the Chief. In addition, firefighters rescued two dogs, a cat, a rabbit and fish.
The American Red Cross is providing assistance to 16 people.
