Jurors in the Boston Marathon Bombing Trial got their first look at the boat Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured in. Only two reporters were allowed to tag along on this trip to an undisclosed location where the boat was on display for jurors to view up close and take notes. The bullet riddled boat was moved last night from a storage facility to a building in South Boston.

The jurors were given a half hour to analyze the boat, named Slipaway 2. First walking around the it, and then in pairs of two, they were hoisted up on a lift to get a closer look inside. Tsarnaev sat unshackled at a table with his attorneys under a white pop-up tent.

Two reporters, handpicked by the judge, went along for the classified trip.

Denise Lavoie with the Associated Press said, “we observed at least 110 bullet holes on the boat. We believe that there were at least 207 bullet holes but can’t be sure.”

David Boeri with WBUR said, “most of the bullets, the bullet holes, were on the port side. Most at about mid-deck of the boat. In addition there were bullet holes to the bow, to the stern, to the rail, and on the starboard side as well.”

After returning to the Federal courthouse, the jury heard from three Watertown police officers who described their shootout with the Tsarnaev brothers on a quiet residential street. The officers said the brothers threw multiple bombs at them and Tamerlan shot at them until he ran out of bullets.

Tamerlan was tackled by police and later ran over by his brother Dzhokhar in a stolen car.

Dzhokhar was later found hiding out in the boat in Watertown. Tsarnaev’s lawyers have admitted he did it, but are claiming he was following the direction of his older brother, Tamerlan. If found guilty, he could face the death penalty.
