Warwick Police say they had a successful “Safe Rides Program” during St. Patrick’s Day.
According to a press release, volunteers provided six people safe and free rides home as part of the program’s effort to reduce drunk driving within the city.
“Although the numbers were lower than we had hoped, even one person who gets home safely and doesn’t get behind the wheel after drinking too much is a success” said Lt Michael Gilbert.
Any Warwick resident who was too drunk to drive just had to call the hotline and a volunteer would pick him or her up at the bar and provide a safe ride home.
Future programs such as this one are being considered for other holidays such as New Years Eve.
