Man charged in brutal beating

A Providence man is being charged with felony assault and disorderly conduct for punching another man unconscious. Cranston police arrested Victor Cruz, 25, Saturday afternoon at his home. Cruz allegedly beat Arthur Porter, 56, of Cranston so badly that he was knocked out.
Officers found Porter at the corner of Broad Street and Norwood Avenue around 11:30 this morning with what appeared to be a head injury. He was rushed to Rhode Island hospital where he is in serious condition.
The motive behind the beating is unclear, but police tell ABC6 News the suspect may have thought the victim was someone else.
Cruz is being held overnight.
