PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ The state Retirement Board has voted unanimously to ask the Superior Court to revoke the $4,800-a-year legislative pension of former House Majority Leader Gerard Martineau, who served time in federal prison for corruption.
Martineau, a Woonsocket Democrat, pleaded guilty to corruption charges in November 2007 and was sentenced to three years in prison. The Retirement Board acted Tuesday.
Retirement Board lawyer Michael P. Robinson said he expects to file papers in the next three weeks, with 20 days for Martineau to respond. He does not have a listed phone number.
The 56-year-old Martineau served in the House of Representatives from 1987 to 2002 and was majority leader his last four years in office.
Martineau, who sold paper and plastic bags, acknowledged using his political influence to defeat legislation opposed by major customers.
