A 12-year-old boy from Rehoboth is accused of sexting an underage girl from Barrington.
The girl’s mother brought her daughters cell phone to the police department after discovering naked pictures.
“Her daughter was being punished, so she took the cell phone away. The parent happened to be going through the cell phone and saw some pictures on there that were a little disturbing,” said Chief John LaCross.
LaCross says sexually explicit pictures of three different men were found on the girl’s cell phone late last month.
Two of those men haven’t been identified yet, but police say one was the middle schooler from Rehoboth..
“We found out through our investigation through Facebook, Instagram, and another website Talk to Strangers that the Barrington juvenile befriended this young boy from Rehoboth and there was some naked pictures that was exchanged,” said LacCross.
LaCross
says it appears the young girl asked for the pictures from the 12-year-old.
“I think she was requesting something to make somebody else jealous in a relationship,” said LaCross.
LaCross says the boy has been remorseful. He says this case should serve as an important reminder for parents to always monitor their children’s cell phones and tablets.
“Every once in a while start looking through those images on your child’s phone and see what’s on there. You never know, it could be a pedophile it could be somebody lying who goes into these chat rooms,” said LaCross.
The 12-year-old in this case is scheduled to go before a Juvenile Hearing Board.
