PROVIDENCE, RI- Some school districts decided to cancel classes once again today which means they have to figure out how to make up even more snow days.

The Providence school district has asked the state to shorten the school year by one day.

With today’s cancellation, that would mean school would get out on June 26th. But, if they have any more snow days, the district would have to look at other options. We spoke with the teacher’s union about what they think is reasonable.

Mari Beth Calabro said, “I think we need to look at a whole host of things; the possibility of extending the school day, the possibility of looking at early release days Friday. I think that all of those could be in consideration possibly Saturdays, but we’re not the only union that would be impacted by those decisions.”

The district has to consider whether bus drivers could accommodate changes to the schedule as well.

Both the union and the district are hoping to avoid messing with the April vacation or extending the year into the last week of June which is right before the 4th of July weekend.
