PROVIDENCE – Through tears, the last two men involved in the murder of Providence teen George Holland apologized for their crimes… before being sentenced to the next three decades behind bars.
“I am terribly sorry for what I have done and the pain I have caused for the Holland family,” said Seydina Ndoye.
Alongside Alain Bedame, Ndoye will spend the next thirty years in prison… though the two were sentenced to 70.
17-year-old Holland was caught in the crossfire when bullets tore through his girlfriend’s Providence home on Colfax Street last year.
According to Attorney General Peter Kilmartin, this was “fueled by revenge over stolen cash and a cell phone,”
But the Central High School football player was never the target… his girlfriend’s brothers were.
Now that court has come to a close The Holland family says they can begin to heal.
“We lost an important family member, and that’s forever going to be there, but we did get some justice today in the court system,” said Vincent Clement, Holland’s grandfather.
In total… 5 people were charged and sentenced in the murder.
Earlier this month, Ashner “Pookie” Alexis, 19, of Pawtucket and Anthony “Bing” Moore, 22, of Woonsocket were sentenced to consecutive life sentences plus 10 years for their respective roles in the murder. Robert Winston was sentenced to 30 years with 26 to serve, with the remainder suspended with probation, for his role.
During the trials, the state proved that the defendants drove to Colfax Street and Alexis and Winston exited the vehicle and walked to the front of the house, where Alexis told Winston to knock on the window, which had its blinds drawn. When the shadowy outline of a person appeared at the window, Alexis fired the shotgun, striking and killing Holland.
