People in Central Coventry are mourning the loss of their former Fire Chief. Chief Andrew Baynes died late Monday while vacationing in Florida.

The Chief retired late last year after running the Central Coventry Fire Department for 2 and-a-half years, including during its difficult receivership and bankruptcy.

Prior to that, he was Fire Chief in Johnston, but spent most of his 33 year career at the Warwick Fire Department where he rose to the rank of Battalion Chief.

Andrew Baynes was 63 years old and is survived by his wife and son.

Funeral services are pending.
