RIDOT Director Michael Lewis resigns

The Director of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation is stepping down, according to the governor’s office.

Governor Raimondo announced Tuesday that director Michael Lewis has resigned his position to explore new opportunities. His last day on the job is February 27th.

Lewis has been RIDOT Director for more than six years.

Governor Raimondo plans to appoint Peter Alviti Jr., who is the director of Public Works in Cranston, to replace him.

Alviti appointment will have to be approved by the Rhode Island Senate.

The Governor also announced Peter Garino has started is position as a Deputy Director of RIDOT.
