Providence schools closed Monday for snowstorm

Mayor Jorge Elorza announced the cancellation as part of a series of actions in response to a winter storm expected to escalate in the early hours of Monday and continue through the day. City recreation centers will be closed Monday and all after school activities are cancelled.
The mayor said a citywide parking ban will also go into effect at 12:01 a.m. and remain in effect until further notice. All vehicles parked on the street after the parking ban takes effect will be ticketed and towed. The mayor also said all garbage pickups will take place a day later.
