PC’s Ben Bentil Named Big East Rookie of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced on Monday, February 9 that Providence freshman forward Ben Bentil (Wilmington, Del.) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. It marks the first time that Bentil has earned BIG EAST Rookie of the Week accolades and the first time a Friar has received the honor since LaDontae Henton was named Rookie of the Week on March 4, 2012.
Bentil averaged 16.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games last week. He also was 14-17 from the free-throw line (82.4 percent). Bentil scored 16 points, grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and was 8-9 from the free-throw line in the Friars’ win over No. 24 Georgetown on February 4. In the Friars’ loss at Xavier on February 7, Bentil scored 16 points and registered six rebounds. For the season, he is averaging 5.6 points and 4.2 rebounds.
The Friars will return to action on Wednesday, February 11 when they host No. 6 Villanova at 8:00 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
