Police carry it, emergency crews carry it, and soon there could be a life saving drug inside every middle and high school in Rhode Island.
State Rep. David Bennett of Warwick has proposed legislation to make narcan available inside every school grades 6 thru 12 in the state.
Right now, the narcan kits which is a medication to reverse an overdose, are only available to first responders and police. Bennett wants every school nurse to have access to these kits.
According to a recent survey, Rhode Island ranks the highest in the country for illegal drug use and overdose deaths.
