PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A man was arrested as the result of an incident where shots were fired early on Sunday morning, according to the Providence Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired at Chalkstone Avenue and Bergen Street at around 3:45 a.m.

Investigators encountered a man, later identified as 25-year-old Wilkens Dorleans, holding an object in his front right jacket pocket.

Dorleans walked away from police and tried to get into a black BMW, at which point officers ordered him to get away from the vehicle.

He backed towards a wall with his hands up, but pulled away as police tried to frisk him. Officers then took control of Dorleans to prevent him from escaping.

Police seized a pistol loaded with 10 rounds from Dorleans’ pocket.

While the officers were apprehended Dorleans, the driver of the BMW, 27-year-old Devon Walker, approached them from behind.

The officers ordered Walker to step away, at which point he started yelling at police.

Police took Dorleans back to the station for further questioning. Walker was released at the scene.
