New Bedford braces for Winter Blast

The snow is really starting to pick up in
Mayor Jon Mitchell declared a state of emergency Monday afternoon, canceling schools for the next 2 days and urging people to stay off the roads.
“Heavy winds and strong snow will result in white blizzard conditions with zero visibility,” says Mitchell.
The mayor is saying more than 100 vehicles are dedicated to salting, with more than 500 tons expected to be used throughout this blizzard.
“Plowing will begin once snow levels reach a plow able amount somewhere just above 3 inches,” says Mitchell.
Roads around
“It’s kind of difficult when you get 6 to 12 inches you can kind of put the snow in places but when you’re gonna get 2 feet it’s kind of difficult to place snow,” said Michael Gray of Dartmouth.
City offices as well as schools will be closed the next two days and emergency shelters open in town.
A parking ban is in effect and drivers are urged to stay off of the roads.
Power outages are expected. If you see a down line you’re asked to call 911.
