East Providence man in court for fraudulent COVID-relief business loans

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- An East Providence man was in court for the first time Wednesday for allegedly filing eight fraudulent COVID-relief loan applications.
Kevin Mancieri, 48, is facing one charge of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, according to U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha.
Court documents reveal that Mancieri applied for the two loans in his name and six others with various names. The companies, bank account records, and tax statements all falsified.
The loans totaled at least $337,096 in forgivable business loans with $131,414 in funds disbursed. Mancieri received $29,038 personally while conspiring with others to receive half of the proceeds disbursed to other entities, prosecutors say. They also believe Mancieri received $49,400 for applying for loans for his associates.
