Rhode Island ended 2014 with its lowest unemployment rate in 6 years.
Job numbers for December 2014 released Thursday showed that the unemployment rate dropped to 6.8%, down three-tenths of a percentage point from the previous month and down 2.5 from the December 2013 rate.
These latest numbers are the lowest the state’s seen since March of 2008.
The total number of RI-based jobs was down 100 from November as government jobs declined. Private sector jobs remained unchanged.
Over the month, the number of unemployed residents in the state decreased by 2,000.
