New Bedford homicide victim identified

NEW BEDFORD – A homicide investigation is underway in New Bedford, after a man was shot dead in broad daylight.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office says 36 year-old Javon Brown, of Dartmouth, was shot at the Metro PCS cell phone store on Coggeshall Street around 12:30 p.m. Thursday. When police arrived, they found him near the parking lot outside the store. He was rush to Saint Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:12 p.m. Thursday.

Eyewitnesses and passersby told ABC6 News the man worked at the store. 

Nicole of New Bedford said she heard the gunshots and could not believe what she saw when she rushed outside. “It wasn’t a pretty sight, it was pretty awful,” she said. “I felt bad for the man and his family. He was a good man. My heart is still pounding.”
