IKEA recalls crib mattresses due to entrapment hazard

By Alana Cerrone
A crib mattress sold at IKEA is being recalled due to a potential hazard to babies.
The recall involves about 169,000 IKEA VYSSA style crib mattresses with model names VACKERT, VINKA, SPELEVINK, SLÖA, and SLUMMER.
According to the recall description, the gap between the mattress and crib could become too large and pose an entrapment hazard to infants.
There have been two reports of infants becoming trapped, but both were removed without injury.
A gap between the mattress and crib ends that is larger than two finger widths is an indication of a defective mattress. Affected mattresses were sold online or in-store between August 2010 and May 2014 for about $100.
If you think your mattress may be defective, stop using it immediately and return it to any IKEA store for an exchange or full refund. For more information, you can call IKEA toll-free at (888) 966-4532 anytime or visit them online at www.ikea-usa.com and click on the recall link at the top of the page.
