Woonsocket Police officer sentenced to 6 months for child abuse

A Woonsocket Police officer convicted of child abuse was sentenced to 10 years with 6 months to serve today.

25-year-old Patrick Cahill was found guilty of one count of second-degree child abuse for choking his 9-year-old sister in August of 2012. She immediately told her mother who then alerted police.

Cahill had been on unpaid administrative leave from the Woonsocket Police Department since the time of the incident.

Cahill can have no contact with the victim and must undergo mental health counseling. He was released on personal recognizance.

He will be back in court on January 14th, 2014 for the execution of his sentence.
