CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Cranston has appointed an Acting Fire Chief following the retirement of Paul Valetta as Acting Chief.

Assistant Chief Steven MacIntosh will be appointed Acting Chief of the Cranston Fire Department on July 26.

MacIntosh began his firefighting career in Seekonk before joining the Cranston Fire Department in 1984. In his 35 years with Cranston, MacIntosh has risen through the ranks, serving as a Captain in both Fire Prevention and Special Hazards before being named Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal in 2011, and finally Assistant Chief earlier this year.

As the Acting Fire Chief, MacIntosh will also be the E.M.A. Director for the city.

Cranston Director of Administration Daniel Parrillo said MacIntosh is on the list for consideration to be appointed to the Fire Chief position. His nomination will be presented to the City Council in August.
