Cruise ship coming to Newport for first time in two years

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — A cruise ship is coming to Newport for the first time in two years.

The Ocean Voyager will bring more than 90 tourists to the area when it docks on Friday.

Right now, the cruise ship is in New London, Connecticut.

This is great news for local shops and restaurants who rely on those tourism dollars.

“Having the cruise ships come in would just drive more tourism and help these small local businesses,” Nick Jones told ABC 6 News.

A total of 50 cruise ships are expected to come into the City by the Sea through the end of October, bringing with them about 150,000 tourists.
