Grand jury charges chairman of the Westerly Democratic Town Committee with sexual assault

The Rhode Island Attorney’s Office said Monday a grand jury indicted Robert Ritacco, who’s the chairman of the Westerly Democratic Town Committee, with two counts of first-degree sexual assault.

The attorney general said the alleged acts happened in Westerly on May 29, 2021. No further information on that incident was immediately released.

Rhode Island State Police is conducting the investigation.

Ritacco is scheduled to be arraigned next month in Washington County Superior Court.

According to the Westerly Democratic Town Committee’s website, Ritacco has been the chairman since 1999.
