Warren man, 44, accused of shooting BB gun inside apartment prompts heavy police presence
WARREN, R.I. (WLNE) — A 44-year-old Warren man accused of shooting a BB gun inside an apartment prompted a heavy police presence early Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at about 6:30 a.m. on Warren Avenue.
Warren Police Lt. Christopher Perreault said that they received a call from a woman who said her 28-year-old son was locked inside his first floor bedroom while Silvia Damico shot at his door.
Perreault said the mother also told police that Damico had a silver handgun in his “possession or bedroom.”
When officers arrived, the lieutenant said the 28-year-old was able to make it out safely.
Perreault said attempts to make contact with Damico were unsuccessful.
Police said they were concerned for the safety of neighbors and advised them to leave their homes while they staged outside of the home.
Rhode Island State Police said its tactical team and BearCat armored vehicle were called to assist. When they arrived, Damico was safely taken into custody without incident, said Perreault.
Damico was charged with possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a crime of violence, firing in a compact area and domestic disorderly conduct.
He was held without bail.
