President Joe Biden nominated Rhode Island public defender Lara Montecalvo to serve the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse on Wednesday praised Biden for his nomination, saying in part, “She is highly qualified for this important position and will bring a unique perspective and diversity of experience to the First Circuit.  We urge the Senate to consider and confirm her nomination in a swift and timely manner.”

Montecalvo, who’s a Barrington resident, has served the Rhode Island Public Defender’s Office since 2004, and has over 20 years of legal experience.

Once her nomination is formally received and reviewed by the U.S. Senate, it will be sent to the Judiciary Committee. The nomination will then need to be confirmed by the full Senate.
