PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — An investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor showed that four Rhode Island medical practices underpaid nearly 100 employees and failed to accurately pay them for overtime.

The labor department filed a lawsuit again North Providence Primary Care Associates Inc., North Providence Urgent Care Inc., Center of New England Primary Care Inc., and the Center of New England Urgent Care Inc. in 2019.

The federal court said that all four facilities were in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act for “failing to properly compensate employees for overtime hours worked and not maintaining accurate records of the hours employees worked.”

The court ordered the employers to pay $175,000 in wages, and each pay $50,000 in civil money penalties.
