PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Providence Board of Licenses has once more postponed a decision on the final fate of a troubled Federal Hill nightclub.

The Board met Wednesday afternoon to discuss the fate of Club Seven, the Spruce Street nightclub outside of which Stephen Cabral was beaten and stabbed to death on June 30.

Surveillance footage from both inside and outside the club was shown at the meeting Wednesday. Police said the footage shows Cabral leaving the club, followed several minutes later by a group of men, several of whom have already been arrested and charged with murder.

A Providence Police detective said multiple shots were fired during the altercation between Cabral and his assailants, but no calls to 911 were made until after Cabral was already stabbed.

Police also said several suspects had knives confiscated by bouncers that night.

City Solicitor Jeffrey Dana argued in favor of Club Seven’s license being revoked, saying the club operates irresponsibly.

“The city has no faith that this establishment can run responsibly or competently,” said Dana.

Surveillance video was shown of bartenders delivering bottle service to tables, and claim music was blasting, even though the club’s entertainment license was revoked for the month of June.

Nick Hemond, an attorney for the nightclub, said 16 days of closure was punishment enough and said the city is only using the argument of bottle service and entertainment because they can’t prove a fight started inside the club.

“It’s very clear that they want them out of business, and they can’t get it done in a way that the law requires. They can’t establish that anything happened inside, not an argument, not a fight,” said Hemond after the hearing.

The Board of Licenses will decide on Club Seven’s fate on Wednesday, July 24. The club will remain closed in the meantime.
