Narragansett police warn of ‘secret shopper’ scam

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Narragansett Police Department is warning the public of a “secret shopper” scam.

Police said that scammers send targets a letter as well as a fraudulent check and tell them to cash it. They then instruct targets to buy gift cards and give them the gift card number.

The scammers will take the funds from the gift cards and the check will bounce, according to police.

Anyone who gets a scam letter should contact police immediately.
