Fire in North Providence spreads to 2 homes, displaces both families

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Two homes in North Providence caught on fire Tuesday afternoon.
The fire broke out at a home on Atwood Avenue at about 2:15 p.m.
North Providence Fire Chief John Silva said when firefighters arrived, they saw fire coming from the roof and three sides of one home and spread to a neighboring house.
Crews from several surrounding communities also responded and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in roughly a half hour.
The chief said no one was home at the time and no one was injured. However, both homes are not-livable and Red Cross was called to help those families.
Silva said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
