Police warn of fundraiser scam in South Kingstown

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The South Kingstown Police Department is warning the public of a fundraiser scam.

The department posted to its Facebook page on Tuesday, saying that anyone who gets mail from “Citizens Behind the Badge” should be cautious. That organization is claiming to be raising funds on behalf of the police department.

Police said that they have no association with that organization, and encourage residents to verify where their donations are going.

Anyone who has already donated should keep an eye on their accounts and contact the police department if any additional funds are taken.
