Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter announced in statement today that he will appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the accusations made by Fall River City Councilman Jasiel Correia against Mayor William Flanagan.

Citing concerns of an appearance of conflict on both sides, Sutter has appointed former state and federal prosecutor William H. Connolly to run the investigation.

Connolly has been handling special prosecutions for the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office since January 2013.

Sutter states that Connolly will have complete independence to move forward in the investigation as he deems appropriate.

Mayor Flanagan is accused of trying to intimidate councilman Correia with a hand gun in a meeting on August 14th about the councilman signing of a petition to recall the mayor.
