UPDATE: One dead after fatal crash on I-295 South

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — One person died in a fatal crash on I-295 South in the area of exit 10 near the Johnston-Smithfield line on Friday.

Police say the crash happened around 3 p.m.

One vehicle was involved in the crash, where it went off the highway and rolled over.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police identified the victim as 21-year-old Providence resident, Rosa Garcia Almonte.

Traffic was backed up in the area as crews worked to clear the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by troopers from the Rhode Island State Police Scituate Barracks
