PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) – City leadership has revealed plans to announce who or what will take over McCoy Stadium after the Pawtucket Red Sox leave town.

Mayor Donald Grebien said he plans to announce how McCoy Stadium will be used going forward by the end of September.

In total, six groups came forward with proposals for the property.

“Pawtucket is a desirable location for development and there is a lot of interest from investors, especially in our five federally designated opportunity zones,” said Mayor Grebien in a statement Friday.

The PawSox announced in 2018 that they would be leaving Pawtucket and moving to Worcester starting in 2021.

A public groundbreaking ceremony was held on the new stadium Thursday afternoon in Worcester.
