PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee will be speaking at a press conference to call for the passage of gun safety laws.

The governor will be outside of the State House at about 3:30 p.m. in an effort to get five gun safety bills passed into law. He will be joined by Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos, Attorney General Peter Neronha, General Treasurer Seth Magaziner, Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea, Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare.

Those five bills would limit magazine capacity to 10 rounds, regulate assault weapons, prohibit open carry of long guns in public, raise the legal age to buy long guns and ammunition from 18 to 21, and strengthen safe firearm storage laws.

The event comes one week after the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, where 21 students and teachers died.
